This modern house nestles in the fold in the South Downs near Brighton for a private client.

The house has two storeys but appears to be single storey from the road side, with the second storey visible as the ground falls away on the garden side.

The house features an indoor swimming pool and a number of energy saving features including highly insulated “breathing” walls, triple glazed windows, a green roof, solar electric and solar thermal panels, ground source heating from boreholes, a well using water from an aquifer below,a whole house ventilation system and natural materials throughout.

The seeds used on the green roof are the specially developed local seed mix from the Brighton Biosphere Project – part of an international network of projects sponsored by UNESCO.

Winner of the Sussex Heritage Trust Residential Design Award 2015
