The design for a new aeronautical gallery for the Science Museum in London used the existing curved steel roof of the gallery, cut down the centre and opened up to provide more height and volume for the display of the aircraft in the museum’s collection.

Visitor circulation is on three levels with many of the aircraft suspended from the roof. A real-time air traffic control area was included which would allow visitors to see aircraft on the flight path to Heathrow Airport whilst seeing their progress on radar screens. A full-size Jumbo jet cockpit was also included as was a cafe.
