The new Louis Vuitton ‘Townhouse’ is a unique concession space within the world famous Selfridges department store. The sales area spans three floors, linked by a revolving hydraulic lift within a glass shaft. The glass lift car turns as it rises to reflect the twin illuminated helix displays of iconic Louis Vuitton bags. Hidden within each of these fixtures is a cutting edge structural steel helix beam designed by renowned engineers, ARUP. At the First and Second floor, where the lift passes through the existing structural floor plate, the lift shaft is surrounded by 70mm thick cantilevered glass ‘halo’ floor panels.
Taking the concept design produced by Japanese Designers, Curiosity, we developed the detail design and construction package, were responsible for all technical and statutory approvals, co-ordinated and supervised specialist fabrication packages and provide liaison for the General, Specialist and Fixture contractors through to completion on site.
In addition, we were responsible for all Back of House design, construction and fit-out works to the two additional floors below the Townhouse public space.
